The Boye Round Loom Set vs. Knifty Knitter Round Loom Set
The first difference you will notice is the color changes. The new colors did not make a huge impact, but I believe it was necessary since the next change you will notice is that all the round looms now have an even number of pegs. What was the Extra Large (Yellow) Knifty Knitter Round Loom with 41 pegs, is now the Extra Large (Pink) Round Loom with 40 pegs. What was the Large (Green) Knifty Knitter Round Loom with 36 pegs, is now the Large (Orange) Round Loom and still has 36 pegs. What was the Medium (Red) Knifty Knitter Round Loom with 31 pegs, is now the Medium (Blue) Round Loom with 30 pegs. And last but not least, what was the Small (Blue) Knifty Knitter Loom with 24 pegs, is now the Small (Green) Round Loom, and it still has 24 pegs.
The next big change you will find is the pegs have gone through a major transformation. The new pegs have a smaller knob on the top, unlike the Knifty Knitter Loom, where the peg knob was used to keep the yarn from slipping off, the new pegs have only a small swell at the top of the peg and notch just under the knob to secure your yarn. Last night when I worked with the new looms, I found that when I used a 5 or 6 weighted yarn the notch under the knob was not an issue, but when working with one or two strands of 4 -worsted weighted yarn, one strand would get “caught” in that groove.
The last point we will cover is the material used in the new Boye Looms. The base and pegs are still made of plastic, and the plastic is smoother than the Knifty Knitter Round Looms, which makes working the yarn on the peg a little easier but, it is not as slick as the Adult Hat Loom.
Overall, these seem to be a great addition to your loom collection. Keep your eyes open at your local Wal-Mart for your Boye Round Knitting Looms. I will be keeping an eye out for the rest of the sets, to fill my loom inventory.
Here is a Tip: When we purchased our set the pegs were lose and easily removed, so we flipped them upside down with the pegs on the kitchen table and pressed lightly but firmly until we heard them click into place. They have stayed put since.
But this will be great when you are working cables, you can move the pegs and not the stitch.
